Honorary Director Dr. Laurence Klotz named to Order of Canada

15EGA-DrKlotz-(1).jpgDr. Laurence Klotz, urological oncologist at Sunnybrook Hospital, and honorary member of Prostate Cancer Canada’s Board of Directors, has been named to the Order of Canada thanks to his leading contributions to the treatment of prostate cancer.

Dr. Klotz is recognized as being a leader in the adoption of Active Surveillance as a standard option of patient care. The award highlights his pioneering work in the approach of active surveillance with selective delayed intervention — a term developed by him. In this approach, emphasis is on close monitoring of men with low-risk prostate cancer, with selective definitive intervention for those who are diagnosed higher risk over time.

Dr. Klotz originally served on the Prostate Cancer Canada board from 1998 to 2011.  He has been an Honorary Director since November, 2012.

Congratulations, Dr. Klotz!
