Raise awareness about prostate cancer
2010-07-22 10:48:42 AM
Media, online or off, can’t by itself raise awareness about prostate cancer, its risk factors and the need for research funding. Crucial to that effort are the great community events that support our cause. There’s no substitute for real people interacting and supporting one another, the reach and the cool factor of Facebook and Twitter notwithstanding.

When I was diagnosed with prostate cancer in June 2009, it was a surprise to me to learn that there were only two support groups in all of New Brunswick, Fredericton and Miramichi.  There had been active groups in Moncton and Saint John, but not for quite a number of years.

The five year relative survival rate for prostate cancer is close to 100 per cent. In other words – this is a highly curable disease.  For survivors, beating the disease is often only the first step, as recovery can result in a host of other challenges.  PCC’s goal is to support men and their families throughout their prostate cancer journey – diagnosis, treatment and recovery.
Prostate Cancer Awareness week- why are we doing this?
2012-09-17 4:41:00 PM
We pass by men on the street every day. They’re our co-workers, neighbours and friends. Closer to home, we talk to our fathers, brothers and husbands. Men occupy important places in our lives- and yet, we don’t stop to consider that during their lifetime 1 in 7 of them will be diagnosed with prostate cancer.
