Overview: In this webinar, Dr. Carla Prado discusses the findings of a recently conducted review on diet and lifestyle factors that were found to influence the risk of prostate cancer. A list of the strongest risk and protective factors against prostate cancer are reviewed along with strategies for maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Furthermore, current guidelines for healthy living, including Canada’s Food Guide, are broken down so they can be implemented into your daily life.

Speaker: Dr. Carla Prado is a Registered Dietitian and an Assistant Professor at the University of Alberta, and a Campus Alberta Innovates Program (CAIP) Chair in Nutrition, Food and Health. She is also the Director of the Human Nutrition Research Unit. Dr. Prado is an expert in assessing nutritional status through the precise measurement of body composition and energy metabolism. The focus of her current research program is to develop targeted nutrition interventions for the prevention and treatment of sarcopenia in cancer.

The Finger – A tried and true method to save lives

TORONTO, CANADA (May 8, 2018) – Every day, more and more methods to detect prostate cancer are being explored, but the tried and true methods of a digital rectal examination (DRE) – where a healthcare professional inserts a gloved finger into the rectum to check for abnormalities, paired with a blood test known as the prostate-specific antigen (PSA) test – which you can get through your family doctor, are still the long-standing proven ways to save a life.

Landmark study links tumour evolution to prostate cancer severity

Toronto (April 19, 2018) – Findings from Canadian Prostate Cancer Genome Network (CPC-GENE) researchers and their collaborators, published today in Cell, show that the aggressiveness of an individual prostate cancer can be accurately assessed by looking at how that tumour has evolved.
